Linz, 22.07.2025 – The Linz-based startup Lingohub launched a three year research project in May in cooperation with the University of Applied Sciences Hagenberg to develop its own AI. The result is “LINA,” an intelligent system that will fully automate all future translation processes. The project is funded by the FFG's “Basisprogramm”, with a seven figure sum.
Intelligent translation with AI: The next evolutionary step
What began in 2012 as a simple translation platform soon expanded to include professional translation services. The next step is clear. The future belongs to intelligent systems that not only manage content but also understand, optimize, and improve it independently. For example, in software contexts, the term “support” means customer service, while in product descriptions such as for furniture the AI recognizes the physical meaning and selects the appropriate translation “support” as in brace.
Over the next three years, an AI based extension to the Lingohub platform will be developed in collaboration with FH Hagenberg. The goal is to offer companies flexible, scalable, and stylistically as well as contextually precise translations. The AI will be trained using company specific data, style guides, glossaries, and existing translations. This enables custom tailored content for complex technical texts and rare languages well beyond generic translation solutions.
“With 'LINA' we are developing a solution that integrates like a real team member into existing workflows, independently handles routine tasks, and actively contributes to quality assurance,” explains Helmut Juskewycz, Founder and CEO of Lingohub.
“LINA” as responsible assistant and agent
As an assistant, “LINA” supports professional translators with context sensitive suggestions that automatically take into account style, tone, and technical terminology. As an agent, she autonomously localizes content, checks quality and consistency, and proactively requests human feedback when unsure.
In the long term, Lingohub aims to establish “Managed Translations” through “LINA,” where intelligent systems create, manage, and revise translations when needed. Humans adopt a supervisory role and intervene only for decision making. Ethical and societal considerations are also part of the project’s development.
“Modern AI systems have become ubiquitous in our daily lives. However, people often rely too heavily on these systems' outputs without verifying their correctness. That is why our project is so important for society. We are developing methods for AI based translation systems that self-reflect and automatically verify and correct their results,” says FH Prof PD Dr Stephan Winkler, Scientific Director of Softwarepark Hagenberg. “Having such technologies originate in Europe is essential for ensuring quality, transparency, and our democratic values.”
Human and AI as a team
The market for translation services is changing rapidly. Companies increasingly question why they should invest in manual processes when AI can deliver comparable results. This poses a challenge but also an opportunity for providers like Lingohub.

The efficiency and scalability of AI with the precision and contextual understanding of human translators,” Juskewycz explains. “Support from the FFG and our collaboration with FH Hagenberg are clear signs that we are on the right path to actively shape the future of the translation industry.”
