Machine Translation (MT)

Machine Translation refers to a computer-generated translation. It is basically a translation that doesn't involve any human but is instead based on algorithms.

LingoHub's Machine Translation feature provides translations from the DeepL and Google Translate engines and together they cover up to more than one hundred languages. Those translations are then shown in the editor as suggestions for the translator.

You need to be subscribed to the Professional Plan or the Enterprise Plan in order to have access to the Machine Translation feature.

How to use Machine Translation

The Machine Translation settings are managed in the Project Preferences, under the Translation Tools tab. There are two ways the MT is used in projects :

  • Show translation suggestions in the editor - Usually, this option is always enabled by default

This is manifested in the editor's side panel

When showing the MT suggestions in the editor, the priority is given to the DeepL translations as they are usually more accurate.

  • Fill empty text segments - you can use MT with the Autofill feature to automatically fill empty text segments. You simply need to enable the option and choose the status to which you want to set the target text segment after it has been successfully filled

Machine Translation suggestions are meant to be a starting point for the translators. It is their responsibility to revise and improve that suggestion when needed to turn it into the final translation.
